Unit 6: Can You Run Fast?

Teaching Aims:

1. Enable students to learn and use vocabulary related to sports and physical abilities.

2. Help students understand and use the present continuous tense to describe actions happening now.

3. Develop students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through various activities.

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1: Warm-up (5 minutes)

- Greet the students and lead a brief warm-up activity, such as stretching or doing a simple exercise.

- Show pictures of different sports and ask the students to name them. Elicit the vocabulary related to sports from the students.

Step 2: Vocabulary Building (10 minutes)

- Introduce new vocabulary related to different sports and physical abilities. Use flashcards, real objects, or pictures to help students understand the words.

- Use actions and gestures to demonstrate the meaning of each word and ask students to repeat after you.

Step 3: Listening and Speaking (15 minutes)

- Play a recording of sentences describing different physical abilities. Ask students to listen and match the sentences with the correct pictures.

- Divide the class into pairs and have them take turns asking and answering questions about their own physical abilities using the present continuous tense. For example, "Can you run fast?" "Yes, I can. I am running fast now."

Step 4: Reading and Writing (20 minutes)

- Hand out worksheets with short passages about famous athletes and their physical abilities. Ask students to read the passages and answer the comprehension questions.

- In groups, ask students to write a short paragraph about their favorite athlete, describing their physical abilities using the present continuous tense.

Step 5: Game (10 minutes)

- Play a game of "Simon says" using sports-related actions. Give commands such as "Simon says touch your toes" or "Simon says jump five times." Encourage students to use the present continuous tense when describing their actions.

Step 6: Wrap-up (5 minutes)

- Review the new vocabulary and the use of the present continuous tense.

- Ask students to share one thing they learned about sports or physical abilities during the lesson.

Note: The above teaching plan is just a sample. It can be adjusted and customized based on the specific needs and abilities of the students.
